利用电弧作为热源的熔焊方法，简称弧焊，是应用最为广泛的一类焊接方法。采用金属电极的电弧焊有手工电弧焊、熔化极气体保护电弧焊、焊条电弧焊、药芯焊丝电弧焊、钨极气体保护电弧焊、埋弧焊、等离子弧焊和原子氢焊等。采用碳棒电极的电弧焊有碳弧焊、双极碳弧焊、保护碳弧焊和气体碳弧焊等。电弧焊有的加填充金属，有的不加填充金属。与气体火焰焊相比.电弧焊温度高、能量集中、易于机械化自动化，因而生产效率非常高。
