When the austenite is undercooled to the temperature zone between lower than the pearlite transformation temperature and higher than the martensite transformation temperature, a transformation will take place that combines the shear transformation with the short-range diffusion phase. The transformation product is called bainite or bainite. It was named after Edgar C. Bain found this kind of structure in steel in 1934. Similar transformation products, also known as bainite, have been observed in many non-ferrous alloys. bainite in steel is a mixed structure of ferrite and carbide.
