One of the internal fixation devices for fractures. The commonly used types are cancellous bone screw, cortical bone screw, bolts and compression screws. It can be used separately for bone protrusions, such as fractures of the femur, tibia, external condyle, inner and outer malleolus, olecranon fractures of the ulna, and long oblique or long spiral fractures of certain tubular bones or hands and feet. Bolts can be used separately for femoral intercondylar or tibial upper end fractures. Bone screws can also be used in combination with bone wires and internal bone plates in fracture internal fixation surgery. The materials for bone screw are mostly AISI316 austenilic stainless steel and precision casting or forged titanium alloy. There are also bone screw made of macromolecule materials such as polypropylene, alumina ceramics and nickel titanium shape memory alloy.
