Explanation
A biogenic siliceous sedimentary rock. Mainly composed of the remains of ancient diatoms, with SiO2 as the main chemical component and opal and its variants as the mineral component. Pure diatomite is generally white, and it is often gray white, light yellow, gray to black due to iron oxide or organic matter pollution.
