During weld, the locally melted weldment metal and filler metal (electrode or welding wire) are mixed to form a molten pool. When the weldment heat source is removed, the molten pool is cooled and solidified to form a weld, and the metal in the weld is called weld metal. The composition, structure and performance of weld metal are often different from the materials of weldment, and mainly depend on the materials of weldment, filler metal and weld process specification.
