Explanation
Also known as smoky propellant, or black powder for short, it is inhomogeneous propellant, the oldest kind of explosive, and one of the the Four Great Inventions in ancient China. It is composed of potassium nitrate, sulfur and charcoal. The typical formula of black powder is 75% potassium nitrate, 10% sulfur and 15% charcoal.
