Explanation
A heterogeneous composite materials consisting of metal or alloy and one or more ceramics phase. The solid solubility of metal and ceramics phase at the preparation temperature should be small. Among them, ceramics account for 15% -85% (volume fraction). Metals have almost all the ideal properties: thermal conductivity, strength, and ductility, but are slightly inferior in high-temperature applications. The high melting point, high strength, oxidation resistance and creep resistance of ceramics just make up for the lack of metal. The preparation technology of cermet is similar to that of ceramics. The cermet is made by mixing the metal powder and ceramics powder evenly, forming, and then sintering. It is also prepared by impregnating ceramics body with metal.
