A resin like polymer with a heavy carboxylate structure in the main chain of macromolecule. It can be divided into two categories: saturated (thermoplastic) and unsaturated (thermosetting). Saturated polyester resins are commonly linear polyesters with aromatic dicarboxylic acids. Among them, polyester of diols, including poly (ethylene terephthalate), butyl ester, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethyl ester, and polyethylene 2,6-naphthalate, are collectively referred to as thermoplastic polyester. As for the polyester of aromatic dicarboxylic acids and bisphenols (or bisphenols), it belongs to the category of fully aromatic polyester, while polyaromatic esters usually refer to copolymers of bisphenol A, m-benzoic acid. alkyd resin is a polyester of polybasic acids or/and polyhydric alcohols. Its molecular chains have branched structure and are mainly used as coatings. It is also divided into two categories: saturated and unsaturated. unsaturated polyester resin actually includes alkyd unsaturated polyester resin and generally unsaturated polyester resin.
