The change of state of thermodynamics system with time is called thermodynamic process. If each step of a process can be carried out in the opposite direction without causing other changes in the outside world, the process is called reversible process. In the reversible process, there is no loss of mechanical energy caused by friction heat generation, nor the loss of work ability caused by heat directly transferred from high-temperature objects to low-temperature objects. reversible process is a quasi-static process without dissipation effect. There is no such ideal reversible process in nature. If the actual process is carried out slowly enough so that each state in the process can be approximately regarded as a balanced state, and the dissipative resistance in the process can be ignored, the process can be regarded as a reversible process. reversible process plays an important role in thermodynamics.
