Under the protection of vacuum or protective atmosphere, the smooth and clean two weld surfaces can be closely fitted, and kept for a certain time under a certain temperature and pressure, so that micro plastic rheology and atomic mutual diffusion can occur on the contact surface (or the intermediate diffusion layer and transition liquid phase can accelerate the diffusion process) to achieve metallurgical connection. It can be divided into solid diffusion welding without intermediate layer and liquid diffusion welding with intermediate layer. The formation of weld joint depends on three main parameters: temperature, pressure and weld time under given temperature and pressure. During diffusion weld, since the base metal does not overheating or melt, almost all metal and non-metallic materials can be weld without damaging the properties of the base metal to be welded. It is especially suitable for weld different types of materials, such as dissimilar metals, metals and ceramics, and other materials that are completely incompatible with each other in metallurgy. It is also used for weld of high temperature alloy, titanium and titanium alloy.
