A casting defect in a metal casting, which is caused by incomplete or discontinuous fusion at the junction of liquid metal flow. Its characteristic is the presence of penetrating or non penetrating joints on the casting, which often occur in the wide upper plane and thin-walled areas or chilled areas far from the gate, while periodic and equidistant circular marks appear on the surface of horizontal continuous casting billets. The solidified tissue at the cold junction is dendritic and grows at right angles to adjacent tissues.
