A conductor that uses positive and negative ions as carriers. It includes elonrolyte solution, solid electrolyte and molten salt. Generally speaking, ion conductor refers to solid state. According to the crystallization of matrix, it can be divided into crystalline ion conductor (see fast ion conducting materials and ion conductive ceramics) and amorphous ion conductor, or glassy state ion conductor (see amorphous ion conductor). The conductivity of ion conductor originates from point defects, including intrinsic defects and extrinsic defects caused by doping, which provide migration channels for ions.
