A substance that can undergo chain transfer reaction with the active chain and generate a new active center. chain transfer agent can control the chain length of polymer through chain transfer, so as to control the molecular weight of polymer. Generally, the more chain transfer agent is added, the shorter the polymer chain and the smaller the viscosity. Aliphatic mercaptans and dodecyl mercaptans are commonly used as chain transfer agent in free radical polymerization; Water, alcohol, ether, acid, ester and quinone are chain transfer agent of cationic polymerization; Water, carbon dioxide, oxygen, alcohol and organic acid are chain transfer agent for anion polymerization.
