Its skeleton is a cube, with one carbon atom and one hydrogen atom on each corner of the cube. When all hydrogen atoms are replaced by nitro, octanitrocubane is formed. octanitrocubane is a white solid with stable properties. The sample will not change after 14 months of storage. It is slightly soluble in hexane and easily soluble in polar organic solvents. The synthesis of octanitrocubane is extremely complicated, the conditions are harsh, and the yield is not high, which is basically limited to laboratory synthesis, and the practical application is not much.
