polyvinyl formal is prepared by acetalization of polyvinyl alcohol and formaldehyde in the presence of acid catalyst, or polyvinyl acetate is dissolved in acetic acid or alcohol and hydrolyzed and acetalized with formaldehyde in the presence of acid catalyst.
