The compositional inhomogeneity in multi-component alloy is caused by solidification, solid phase transformation, difference in element density, and energy difference between crystal defect and complete crystal. According to the causes of segregation, it can be divided into solidification segregation (also called primary segregation), homomorphic phase transformation segregation (also called secondary segregation>, density segregation, crystal defect segregation, etc. segregation can be divided into macro segregation and micro segregation. According to the level of system energy before and after segregation, it can be divided into nonequilibrium segregation and equilibrium segregation, and according to the distribution characteristics of segregation, it can be divided into crystal white segregation, segregation in grain boundary, dendritic segregation, etc.
