Also known as gas diffusion medium, it is a porous materials that allows gas to enter and exit through diffusion and is usually used to support the catalyst layer or membrane with catalyst coating. It should also have good conductivity, thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, thermal stability, chemical stability and electrochemical stability. Carbon paper is the most widely used gas diffusion medium in proton exchange membrane fuel cell. It is made of graphitization carbon fiber, with a maximum porosity of 90% and a pore size of more than 10pm.
