hydroxyethyl cellulose is a white or light yellow, tasteless, non-toxic fibrous or powdery solid. It is a non ionic water-soluble cellulose ether. Not thermoplastic plastics. Varieties with different degrees of substitution have different viscosity and properties, and therefore have different uses. It is prepared by reacting alkali cellulose with ethylene oxide. It has the properties of thickening, suspension, adhesion, emulsification, film forming stability, dispersion, water retention and providing protective colloid.
