A cylindrical small piece stacked into the core of a fuel rod, with a diameter of 5-10mm and a height to diameter ratio of 1-1.5, can be either solid or hollow. The surface of the fuel pellet must be mechanically polished to ensure the fit with the cladding materials. In order to adapt to the irradiation swelling of fuel pellet, the upper and lower parts of the pellet are pressing into a concave dish shape.
