The science of studying the laws of material thermal motion and the impact of thermal motion on the macroscopic properties of matter. It is a macroscopic theory about thermal phenomena. The research method is to summarize the basic laws of thermal movement, namely, the the zeroth law of thermodynamics, the first law, the second law and the third law of thermodynamics, through observation, experiment and analysis of thermal phenomena, and to study the properties of macro objects based on them with strict logical reasoning methods. Its basic laws apply to all macroscopic material systems, and the conclusions obtained are reliable and universal. The research of thermodynamics includes thermodynamics of equilibrium state, linear non-equilibrium thermodynamics of near equilibrium state, nonlinear thermodynamics far from equilibrium state and dissipative structure theory.
