A large category of igneous rocks. Refers to igneous rocks with a chemical composition of 45% SiO2 and rich in MgO and FeO. The main minerals are olivine, pyroxene and their alteration products (serpentine, talc, chlorite, etc.), which are dark gray black with high density. The representative rock, such as peridotite, pyroxenolite, kimberite and picrite, often form differentiated complexes with basic rock. It is often distributed along the deep and large fracture zone, in lenticular, vein or irregular shape, with the occurrence of rock bed, rock basin, rock tube, etc., in different sizes. Its related minerals include chromium, nickel, cobalt, platinum group metals, diamond, asbestos, etc.
