The process of solvent molecules penetrating into macromolecule to expand the volume of macromolecule. The swelling process is the first stage of linear macromolecule dissolution process. Subsequently, the macromolecule is uniformly dispersed in the solvent to form a completely dissolved homogeneous phase system, which is the second stage of the dissolution process. For crosslinking macromolecule, swelling will also occur when they contact with solvents, but due to the chemical bond binding of crosslinking point, crosslinking molecules can no longer be further dispersed, and can only stay at the highest swelling stage, so that swelling equilibrium will not occur.
