It is also called chlorotrimethylsilane, chlorotrimethylsilane and trimethylmonochloro silane. The chemical formula (CH3) 3SiCl is a colorless liquid at room temperature. It is one of halogenated silane. It is stable without water and can be decomposed in contact with water to generate hexamethyldisiloxane and hydrochloric acid. It is obtained by reaction of methyl chloride and silicon powder in the presence of cuprous chloride and distillation purification. It is also obtained by nucleophilic substitution reaction of nucleophilic methyl reagents such as intermediate lithium with tetrachlorosilane. There are many uses in organic synthesis.
