Explanation
A metamorphic rock that is almost entirely composed of serpentine group minerals such as serpentine, serpentine or chrysotile serpentine and colloidal serpentine. It is dunite, peridmite and ultramafic rock that are formed by serpentinization of olivine and pyroxene through medium and low temperature hydrothermal metasomatism. In addition to serpentine, the mineral composition also often contains magnesian carbonate, talc, brucite, magnetite, chromite, spinel, etc.
