The general term of composite materials with carbon fiber (fabric) or ceramics fiber (fabric) such as silicon carbide as reinforcement and carbon as matrix. There are two preparation methods for carbon matrix composite: one is the impregnation method, that is, the molten petroleum or coal pitch is soaked with reinforcements, and then treated with carbonization and graphite. Its matrix is carbon graphite, which is in a layered strip structure, and its performance is anisotropic. There are also reinforcements impregnated with thermosetting resin such as furfuryl alcohol or phenolic aldehyde, which are only carbonization. Its matrix is glass-like carbon, that is, amorphous carbon structure, and its properties are isotropic. The other is the CVD method, that is, the pyrolytic carbon of hydrocarbon compounds is deposited on the reinforcement for composition. The carbon matrix of this method is pyrolytic carbon similar to glass-like carbon. Carbon/carbon composhes are not resistant to oxidation, so sometimes anti-oxidation coating is required. carbon matrix composite is widely used in aerospace technology as carbon/carbon composhes. At present, carbon/carbon composhes has been recognized abroad as the most ideal ablation resistant and heat resistant materials for key parts such as nose cone of advanced reentry vehicle and nozzle of solid rocket motor, and also used as brake pad of aircraft.
