The heat treatment process of high temperature tempering after quenching of non-alloy steel or low alloy steel is called quenching and tempering. After quenching and tempering treatment, comprehensive mechanical properties with good strength and toughness matching can be obtained. Mechanical parts made of medium carbon structural steel, such as shafts and gears, are mostly treated with quenching and tempering. The parts made of spheroidizing graphite cast iron are also mostly quenching and tempering. To further improve the wear resistance and fatigue resistance of quenching and tempering parts, nitriding treatment or local surface induction quenching can be carried out after quenching and tempering.
