marcasite is a sulfide mineral of iron. Originally referring to pyrite, it is the name of vulcanization iron ore and similar uncertain minerals. The composition of white iron ore is FeS2, often containing arsenic, antimony, bismuth, nickel, cobalt, etc. It is a homomorphic polymorph of pyrite. Orthorhombic crystal system. crystal are often in the form of plates. The aggregates are in the form of nodules, stalactites, crusts, etc. Light brass color with a slight hint of light gray or light green. The stripes are grayish green. Metallic luster. hardness 5-6, specific gravity 4.6-4.9. It is far less distributed in nature than pyrite. It is a mature liquid deposit, found in late low-temperature mineralization stage products, commonly found in crystal caves, and presents as kidney like or colloidal aggregates. Exogenic marcasite is found in mud rock, sand mud rock and carbonaceous strata, often in the form of nodules. The formation conditions of marcasite and pyrite are different. marcasite is precipitation from weak acidic solution at low formation temperature. It is easier to decompose than pyrite in the oxidation zone, and its product is the same as pyrite.
