Generally, it refers to the phenomenon that metastable austenite induces martensitic transformation when processing below the stress induced transformation transformation temperature, resulting in the reduction of flow stress of materials. In this case, deformation induced martensite can be regarded as a deformation mechanism consisting of phase transformation. Its volume change assists plastic extension. At the same time, stress release reduces the flow stress. In the stress strain curve, a concave valley with upward bending is created, which is called physical softening.
