Simple coordination sulfide mineral is a homomorphic polymorph of sphalerite. The chemical formula is ZnS. It often contains more cadmium, and zinc can be replaced by iron, manganese and cadmium. Hexagonal crystal system. Currently, 154 subtypes have been identified, with the most common being the 2H subtype. The crystal are in the shape of single cone, short column or plate, and the aggregates are in the shape of fiber, shell and column. Light to brown and light brown black (varying with iron content). The stripes are white to brown. Pine resin luster. Embrittlement. The output is not as wide as sphalerite, which is often crystallized from acid solution at low temperature, and coexists with sphalerite, marcasite, etc. Those with high cadmium content can be used as raw mineral material for refining cadmium.
