Also known as zinc oxide clove oil water cement. Usually composed of two components: powder and liquid, and some products are two component pastes. The main components of the powder are heat treatment zinc oxide and rosin, and a small amount of accelerants, such as zinc stearate and zinc acetate, can also be added with some magnesium oxide. The liquid agent mainly consists of eugenol, and sometimes olive oil is added to enhance the soothing effect of eugenol. Other modifiers can also be added to powder and liquid agents. When the powder and liquid are mixed, zinc oxide and eugenol form a chelate to make the cement curing and harden. However, curing products are easy to hydrolyze, and their mechanical strength is poor. Their mechanical strength is related to the proportion of powder to liquid, partidesize and the type of additive when blending. The pH value of zinc oxide eugenol cement is 78, which has a soothing effect on dental pulp. It is commonly used for temporary sealing and filling of tooth cavities, bonding of prosthesis, cavity lining, pulp capping, root canal filling, root canal sealing and periodontal treatment.
