One or both ends of a macromolecule chain have a closed active group, which are called single telechelic polymer and double telechelic polymer respectively. In the presence of chain extender, crosslinking agent and other additive, they can further react to form an elastomer similar to vulcanized rubber. Typical products with different main chain structures, such as hydroxyl terminated, carboxyl terminated polybutadiene, mercapto terminated, amino, nitrogen propyl pyridinyl, epoxy, etc., such as styrene butadiene rubber, acrylonitrilebutadiene rubber, polyisobutene, polyisoprene, etc. It can be directly used, such as adhesive for rocket fuel. Due to its small molecular weight and good rheological properties, it is easy to further process into large molecules. Because it contains reactive active end groups, it is also commonly used to prepare block copolymer, star polymer or dendritic polymer.
