Grey inoculated cast iron mostly uses ferrosilicon (mainly ferrosilicon with 75% silicon content) or silicocalcium alloy as its main purpose to reduce the white tendency, refine graphite, and thus improve the strength of cast iron. In addition, when producing white billets of malleable cast iron, boron bismuth composition is also added properly, but its main purpose is to obtain complete white structure and promote the formation of graphite core during the subsequent graphitization annealing.
