In the process of casting production, the causes, characteristics and degrees of various phenomena that do not meet the dimensional requirements or technical quality specifications on the surface and inside of the casting blank or casting are different. According to the regulations of the International foundry Technology Association Committee, casting defect can be divided into seven categories: fleshy defects, hole defects, crack edd shut defects, surface defects, incomplete defects, shape and size defects, inclusions and abnormal structure defects. According to whether it is possible to significantly reduce or even eliminate casting defect during subsequent hot working or heat treatment, they can be divided into general defects and serious defects. General defects such as porosity, dispersed shrinkage pore, edd shut, segregation, dendrite structure, etc. are allowed to appear to a certain extent, but must be significantly reduced or eliminated through appropriate hot working or heat treatment processes, while serious defects such as cracks, shrinkage hole, slag inclusion inclusion are not allowed to exist or must be removed by surface grinding and mechanical cutting methods.
