The maximum hardness of steel under ideal conditions. The ideal condition refers to the optimal condition under which complete martensite can be obtained without self tempering occurring. The hardening capacity is mainly related to the carbon content in martensite. The higher the carbon content, the higher the quenching hardness, that is, the greater the hardenability. But when the carbon content is greater than 0.6%, the change of hardening capacity tends to be gentle with the carbon content.
