Coordination type natural metal elemental minerals. The chemical formula is Pt. It often contains Ir, Pd, Fe, Cu, Ru, Ni, etc. When the iron content reaches 9% -11%, it is called coarse platinum ore (Pt, Fe). Most natural molybdenum is platinum. Equiaxed crystal system. Cubic crystal are occasionally seen, often in granular and grape like aggregates. Silver interior color to steel gray, with light yellow surface. Striped smoke gray to shiny silver white. Metallic luster, without cleavage. Mohs hardness 4-4.5, density 21.5g/cm3, ductile, slightly magnetic. It occurs in platinum deposits and placers related to basic and ultrabasic rock. It is associated with molybdenum minerals, natural iridium, native gold, copper iron nickel sulfide and chromium spinel. It is a raw mineral material for refining platinum.
