Explanation
The central glass core is very thin (core diameter is generally 9 or 10 μ m) , there is only one transmission mode of optical fiber. The transmission loss and dispersion of single-mode optical fibers are relatively small. Small transmission loss can make the signal transmission distance in optical fiber longer, and small transmission dispersion is conducive to high-speed and high-capacity data transmission. Therefore, in communication systems, especially high-capacity communication systems, most use single mode optical filler.
