It is a weld method that uses the free arc established between the electrode collector and the workpiece (transfer arc), between the tungsten electrode and the nozzle (non transfer arc) or both of the above (combined arc) to become a high power density plasma arc as the heat source through mechanical compression, thermal contraction or magnetic contraction. In essence, it is the development of tungsten gas shielded arc welding method. Compared with the two, the equipment used is similar, but plasma arc welding has the advantages of energy concentration, large penetration, narrow weld, high welding speed, small deformation, large change in allowable arc length, and no tungsten inclusion.
