The plasma arc driven by DC is used as the heat source to heat materials such as ceramics, alloy and metals to the molten or semi molten state, and spray them at high speed to the surface of the pretreated workpiece to form a firmly attached surface layer. It is a technology of surface of materials strengthening and surface modification, which can make the surface of matrix have the properties of wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high temperalure oxidation resistance, electrical insulation, heat insulation, radiation protection, wear reduction and sealing. It also has high productivity, low porosity (1% -1.5%), dense coating, high bonding strength (16? 80MPa), and ultra-high temperature (plasma arc temperature up to 15000-2000K), The velocity of sprayed particles is high (the flame flow velocity is up to 1000-2000m/S, the powder, the particle flight velocity is generally about 200m/s, and the high-energy plasma spraying can reach 610m/s). The sprayed materials is not easy to oxidize, and the spraying materials has a wide source and low cost. It can prepare functional coatings with high wear resistance, corrosion resistance, high temperalure oxidation resistance, insulation, thermal barrier, superconductivity, sealing, lubrication, etc., which are used in aerospace, iron and steel metallurgy, machinery manufacturing rolling stock and medical fields.
